
In the direct surroundings of de Boereplaats you will find peace and quiet. In the area around Waarland you can take nice walks or even better, go though the area by boat( owned by the Boereplaats). Waarland is surrounded by water and along the canals are lot’s of great fishing spots. The ’Waarlandsmolen’ , a watermill from the year 1571, is the town’s most important sight to see. The inhabited mill is in an authentic state except for the propeller. Next to the mill is the ‘Molenhuys’, a small museum where you can find all the information and pictures concerning the windmill and especially about history of the polders of Waarland. They also host artist exhibitions in the museum.
Within 8 kilometres of Waarland lies the picturesque city of Schagen. Here you will find a wide variety of shops, restaurants and cafés. In Schagen there are a lot of sights to see, like the big Church and the old castle(towers). But the most important sightseeing in Schagen is during de ‘Westfriese Folklore’, an event that take place on every Thursday in the summer. Several old professions will be exhibited and acted out in authentic costumes. The climax of this event is the parade, which is a joy to see because of the music, an old carriage and ladies, gentleman and children dressed in costumes from the old days.

The city of Alkmaar is within a 15 kilometre drive from Waarland. Alkmaar is one of Holland’s most pleasant and fun (shopping) cities where you will find something to do every time of the year. Alkmaar has a perfect mixture of entertainment, culture and especially shopping. One of Alkmaar’s most unique events is the Cheese Market, an event where Alkmaar is well known for. The Cheese Market has been there for more than 400 years. Today it’s serves more as an exhibition where actors play the roles of cheese traders dressed in authentic costumes. It truly is a joy to witness!

The coast is not far away at all. On a distance of about 15 kilometres you will find several towns on the coast. You can enjoy the sun on the beach of Petten or with less fortunate weather, have a nice walk through the dunes in Hargen aan Zee. The coast places offer you a wide variety of things to do. For example the artistic village of Bergen, that has many great shops. Or would you rather have a nice walk through the woods of Schoorl.

The small town of Waarland itself offers you a number of places where you can get some groceries. You can also find enough recreation and entertainment in Waarland like a public swimming pool, bowling alley, kayak rentals and a very cosy café.
